Strategic Compass

In an interview for Strategic Compass, Professor Hasan Ünal spoke with Fyodor Lukyanov, Editor-in-Chief of Russia in Global Affairs magazine, about Moscow’s position on the military conflict in Ukraine. Lukyanov made it clear: Russia will not accept a ceasefire unless it’s part of a full peace agreement.

He explained lucidly why Russia would not opt for a ceasefire just for the sake of ceasefire unless it is backed up by a comprehensive peace treaty.

He emphasized how Russia’s position has been consistent all along. The recording was made Sunday evening just before the latest Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian military facilities but the programme offers insights for negotiations and a possibly peace agreement along Russia’s demands and it also outlines how bumpy the road ahead.
