The liberal order began to crack long before Donald Trump entered the White House, but his arrival made the rupture visible and irreversible. As the old framework faltered, the pendulum swung back toward identity, difference, and civilizational self-assertion.

The Geneva agreement appears as a practical implementation of the Chinese dialectical thinking of “seeking cooperation with U.S. through fighting.” For China, adherence to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation in its interactions with the U.S. has long been the cornerstone of its U.S. policy.

Relations between Russia and the U.S. have been degrading steadily, but even the Ukraine crisis has not yet become the equivalent of the Cuban missile crisis.
